Detty December 2026: What to Wear in Lagos, Event by Event

December in Lagos doesn't ease you in. Concerts, beach days, rooftop sets, weddings and family Christmas all land in the same few weeks, and most people spend November working out what they're going to wear. This is our plan for Detty December 2026: what's on, what to wear to each kind of event, and how to build a handful of outfits that cover the whole season.

What's on: the big dates so far

Line-ups are still being announced, so check with the organisers before you book. Here's what has been announced so far:

• Detty December Fest, 18 to 30 December. Thirteen days in Lagos, opening with a Grand Opening Concert featuring Wizkid on 18 December. A Christmas Eve special with DJ Tunez & Friends follows on 24 December, and Tungba Christmas on 25 December.
• Flytime Fest, 22 to 24 December, at Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, according to travel coverage. Headliners haven't been announced yet.
• The free stuff. Beach clubs, day parties and rooftop sets across Victoria Island and Lekki that don't need a ticket. For a lot of people this is the real Detty December.

Rule one: dress for the heat, then for the photos

Lagos in December is hot and humid, and festival grounds are hot, crowded and long. Whatever you wear has to survive six hours of standing, dancing and queueing. That means breathable cotton, relaxed fits that let air move, and shoes you can actually stand in. Then you make it look good.

Boxy tees and baggy shorts are built for exactly this. A boxy cotton tee sits away from the body so it doesn't cling when you sweat, and wide jorts keep you cool without looking like you gave up.

What to wear to each kind of event

Concert night

Go dark and simple so you're not worrying about stains: a black boxy tee or sleeveless tank, wide joggers or jorts, chunky sneakers. Add one statement piece, a chain or a cap, so you stand out in the crowd photos. Keep a small crossbody for your phone and cash.

Beach day and day parties

Lighter colours, less fabric. A tank or cropped tee with baggy jorts, slides or clean low-top sneakers, sunglasses. Women can swap jorts for a mini skirt and keep the tee boxy for balance.

Rooftops and dinner

Step it up a level without switching to a suit. A clean white tee tucked into wide joggers, a light overshirt worn open, and your best sneakers. Tonal outfits (all white, all black) look expensive in photos and take no effort.

Christmas with family

Clean and easy. A plain or small-logo tee, relaxed trousers, nothing that starts a conversation you don't want to have with your aunties.

Build a December capsule: six pieces, a dozen outfits

You don't need a new outfit for every event. Pick pieces that all work together:

1. One black boxy tee
2. One white boxy tee
3. One tank or cropped top
4. Baggy jorts
5. Wide joggers
6. One light overshirt or jacket for air-conditioned venues

Every top works with every bottom, so that's twelve outfits before you add accessories. Swap the cap, the chain and the sneakers and nobody will clock the repeat.

Plan it now, not on the 17th
